[For Lara] An Anniversary Away, backdated to Valentine's Day

When the portal opened just before the anniversary of their first kiss, Kitty didn't need to convince Lara that they should celebrate by going off-world. She didn't even know where they would be going and neither did Lara, but it didn't matter. They'd grinned, kissed, tussled and taken some quality time before finding out where they'd be spending their "vacation."

The other-world turning out to be an amusement park both delighted and disappointed. Delighted because how perfect for Valentine's Day, but disappointed because, well, they both tended to be adrenaline junkies, didn't they? Still, there was nothing to say they wouldn't find a little adventure, and they would certainly have fun and a chance to really talk to each other. Not that they didn't, but being together tended to override talking about...everything that happened between when they met and when Lara came back.

Kitty wasn't really thinking about that when they left the Inn and emerged blinking in the bright light and joyful sounds of the park. She threaded her fingers with Lara's, looked along her shoulder at her, and said, "Okay, what's first?"

Lara squeezed Kitty’s hand and couldn’t help smiling. That last world they’d really spent time in had been... was it Songrun? Back that far? They’d both wanted a fight, and Wyatt had come along....

Well, this was different. This was an actual date, and while they would absolutely have to try the rides and see if any of them was enough for real thrills, what to do first was almost easy. “Let’s find something slow. A funhouse or a tunnel of love or something. We can hold hands and talk and such. Later I will find a stuffed rabbit and win it for you. Or a coconut or something.”

Kitty laughed and squeezed Lara's hand. Of course, that wasn't good enough, so she leaned over to steal a kiss, quick and light.

"Tunnel of Love, then." Funhouse would have too many distractions. "And if you win me a rabbit, then I'll win you one. Or a kangaroo. Yeah." A grin, a wink. "A kangaroo." Why, she had no idea, but it just felt right.

“Oh, I see how it is!” Lara laughed, using their clasped hands to pull Kitty into a little impromptu twirl as they walked. “You remember I’ve never been to Australia and want to rub it in! What a cruel girlfriend I have.”

"Yes! That's absolutely what I want to do, L." Kitty let her voice slip into a silkier sort of tease. "Rub it in." Which was such a stupid euphemism for digital stimulation, she couldn't help making a little face after.

Lara put on her 'Lady Croft' face, very above it all, but couldn't hold it for more than a few seconds before dissolving into giggles. "Later! We can do that later." And almost certainly would.

For now, though, looking for the Tunnel of Love. There had to be one, didn't there? What kind of fair didn't have one?

"Mm-hm, among other things." Kitty grinned, leaned over and kissed Lara's giggles in the sloppy, silly, ridiculous kind of kiss that only people who'd found and lost and found love again thought remotely appealing.

It didn't take them long to find the Tunnel of Love, and it took even less time for Kitty to burst into laughter over "Tunnel of Love" because they were both twelve.
